Roads 2000 Project in Nyanza Province of Kenya supported financially by Swedish

International Development Agency SIDA will support 11 districts of the province to
improve and maintain a total of some 10,400 Km of Road using appropriate
technology and maximising the use of local resources including labour over a period
of 4 years.
Major components of the project include capacity building and training of District
Authorities, Government Engineers and local consultants and contractors to carry out
the work, raising awareness of all stakeholders to the Environmental and soil
conservation impacts of road and transport initiatives and the socio-economic effects
of road improvement and employment creation through road sector investment.
Issues that will cut across all components will include democracy and human rights,
gender equality, labour and child rights, HIV/AIDS awareness, all to better the
livelihoods of the communities in the Province.
ITT will provide technical assistance for the implementation, monitoring and
